Here we found an oddball vehicle offered for sale on Craigslist for $17,900 in Irvine, California. This 1990 Toyota Townace 4WD Royal Lounge with panorama windows on top is in excellent condition, like a new car. The great of this van is comes with a 4x4 drivetrain and high ride profile, so it could be the perfect bone for adventurer RV conversion.This a compact van with a lot of potential as a camper or just an off-road toy. It's not a long way to make a true weekend vehicle. Installed camping amenities into it and wear all-terrain tires, it will be a lot of fun.
In other countries, it's known as the TownAce and MasterAce van, and in the US it's called the VanWagon or Toyota Van. While the van may not be the most attractive vehicle of the modern era, especially in the US, where its layout doesn't conform to the new front impact safety regulations, we're sure it's to be one desired van among the van life enthusiasts out there.
Stylistically, the second-generation TownAce featured a sharply sloped front with remaining its distinctive styling and engine layout, where the engine is underneath the driver’s seat, looks interesting because routine maintenance can do onboard. Front-engine, four-wheel drive layout, it has better control of many surfaces and makes it tough for all seasons and all weather.
Not much info we can get from its ad, the size of the engine is unrevealed. At least it has an inline 4-cylinder gas engine mated with a 3-speed automatic transmission with only 98k original miles. Essential equipment for playing outside, a compass and level finder shown on the dash, will prevent you from straying or losing your balance.
From the many photos of the inside, not a single photo of the passenger seat is shown, we suspect that all of them have been removed. It's good if you want to turn it into a camper. One of my favorites is the beautiful SkyLite Glass Roof (panorama window), there are plenty of ways to take in the scenery when you’re touring the country and sleeping in rest stops to grab some shuteye on the night with millions of stars as fellas.
This TownAce runs and drives well with meticulous maintenance, and is equipped with the highest trim as a luxury Toyota van in 1990. The best part is TEMS (Toyota Electronic Modulated Suspension) which is sure to make an already interesting driving experience even more memorable.
