1969 Land Rover Series 2A 109 Fully Restored
Here's British Four Wheel Drive Vehicle produced by Land Rover that were inspired by the US-built Willys Jeep. It's a long wheel base known as the Series IIA 109 built in 1969. The Series IIA is considered by many the most hardy Series model constructed. It is also the type of classic Land Rover that features strongly in the general public's perception of the Land Rover, from its many appearances in popular films and television documentaries set in Africa throughout the 1960s.Details about this vehicle by owner
1969 Land Rover Series IIA 109. This vehicle has received a full body off restoration and during the rebuild process its been modernised to cope with daily driving and for it to ride with more comfort.
So, its now riding on a Range Rover chassis and suspension, which means that the old leaf springs have been ditched and its now riding on independent coil spring suspension which has smoothed out the ride quality whilst also improving the handling.
The engine is now a 2.5 litre Peugeot Turbo Diesel with Intercooler. This is a well known modification to do on Series Land Rovers and uses a conversion kit by Steve Parker Land Rovers. These 2.5's pretty much slot right in with very little modification needed, other than modified engine mounts, exhaust system, wiring etc. Performance is now much improved with good performance and much improved fuel economy.
Again using an adapter from Steve Parker Land Rovers, the engine is now bolted to a Discovery 5 Speed Gearbox and Transfer box. This means that this Series 2a is now able to cruise at higher speeds and lower Rev's and it will happily sit on the motorway all day long, with no problems what so ever.
All in all, this is a great conversion for any Series Land Rover and it all works so well, so much so that its hard to see any downsides.....so great Retro looks with modernised mechanicals and much better reliability.
Bodywork wise the bodyshell is in great condition and has been fully re-sprayed and whilst its a couple of years since the restoration took place its still in great order and the paintwork still polishes up to a good shine. The Range Rover chassis was also fully refurbished and is in great condition with no rust whatsoever.
